Convert MP4 to VCD
Drop an MP4 and get back an MPEG-1 file in NTSC Video CD format, the kind Nero and other disc software expect when you burn a VCD. It's converted on your own device by a copy of FFmpeg that runs in the browser, so the video never leaves your computer.

What you get
One .mpg file per video, using the same settings as the desktop command ffmpeg -target ntsc-vcd. Picture: MPEG-1 at 352 × 240, 29.97 frames a second, 1150 kbit/s. Sound: MP2 stereo at 44.1 kHz, 224 kbit/s. Those numbers are fixed by the Video CD standard, which is why there are no quality settings to pick.
A VCD file comes out at roughly 10 MB per minute of video, so a standard 80 minute CD holds about 80 minutes.
Burning the disc
This page makes the file. It doesn't burn the disc. Open Nero, start a Video CD project, add the .mpg files in the order you want them to play, and burn. Other VCD authoring software works the same way.
Which videos work
MP4, M4V and MOV files with H.264, H.265 or MPEG-4 video and AAC, MP3 or AC-3 sound. That covers videos from phones, most cameras and most downloads. MKV, WebM and AVI files aren't supported.
The video needs a sound track. A Video CD always carries audio, so a silent clip is turned away with a message rather than converted into a disc with no sound.
What it downloads
The converter is about 5 MB, and the browser only fetches it when you drop your first video. Viewing this page doesn't download it. After that it's kept, so the tool also works offline.
You can convert up to 20 videos at a time. Each one is saved separately rather than zipped, because video files are large and a zip would have to be built in your browser's memory.
Quick questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. FFmpeg runs inside your browser and the file is read straight from your disk. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Will the file work in Nero?
It's a standard NTSC VCD MPEG file, made with the same settings as ffmpeg -target ntsc-vcd, which is what Nero's Video CD project expects.
Can I make a PAL VCD?
Not yet. The tool makes NTSC (352 × 240, 29.97 frames a second) only.
Why won't my MKV or WebM video convert?
The converter only includes the MP4 and MOV readers, to keep the download small. Convert the video to MP4 first, then drop it here.
Why does it say my video has no sound track?
A Video CD always has audio, and the tool won't silently make a disc without it. Add a sound track (even a silent one) in a video editor and try again.
How big will the VCD file be?
About 10 MB for every minute of video, whatever the size of the original.
Does the converter burn the disc?
No. It makes the .mpg file. Burn it with Nero or other Video CD software.
